The police today advised the people against participating in any illegal demonstration to be held in Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam at the weekend.

NONESelangor police chief Khalid Abu Bakar said the police had received information that leaders of certain political parties andNGOs were planning a street demonstration and forum.

He said the Selangor police would not issue any permit for such a gathering.

"I advise the political parties and NGOs not to go ahead with the demonstration and forum," he said in a statement.

Police ready to act

Khalid advised the people not to participate in the demonstration as the police were prepared to act firmly against any illegal gathering.

The Selangor police chief did not mention which demonstration or forum he was referring to.

A check with key groups indicated no major demonstrations being planned by either political parties and NGOs this weekend.

However, the opposition Pakatan Rakyat coalition is holding its first convention at the Shah Alam City Council auditorium on Saturday.
