Labour dispute: Cimb Bank 'lying blatantly'
We refer to the report Nube decides on ‘work to rule’.
The statement by Cimb's Group Corporate Communications Head, Effendy Shahul Hamid is a blatant lie.
The National Union of Bank Employees (Nube) has had numerous meetings with the bank’s management since September 2008.
At each meeting, the bank gives us an assurance but acts contrary to the assurance later. Even at the eleventh hour, the bank was distorting information in its last reply.
Hence, the trade dispute should not be a surprise to Cimb’s management.
Cimb Bank is the second-largest bank in Malaysia, a government-linked compny and a custodian of public funds.
It has now boldly lied to Malaysia's national news agency (Bernama) and to the entire nation. This makes one wonder.
The Nube will not hesitate to escalate its actions to protect the welfare, rights and livelihood of Cimb’s lower-income employees.
The writer is general-secretary, Nube.
