The government always ensures that security at the Parliament area is top priority because it is among 110 places identified as target for those hoping to disrupt national security said deputy home minister Jelaing Mersat.

malaysia parliament parlimen building 050907 span "Since the Parliament area is the number one target, security is very tight although a number of minor incidents do happen due to the large number of people frequenting the area," said Jelaing when answering a question from Tan Seng Giaw (DAP-Kepong) in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Tan had wanted to know the level of security enforced in the Parliament area to avert any kind of threat to national security, including attacks from suicide bombers.

Jelaing said the government was always very concerned with the level of security at the Parliament area because it is not only a main target for attack, it is also listed among the 339 locations classified as second priority targets.

However, the government does not expect any threats, including suicide bomb attacks, but the government continuously ensures that a high level of security was enforced in the area, to avert any eventualities.
