MACC: Don't speculate on pol sec probe

It looks like yet another political aide has landed himself in trouble with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The commission has however refused to confirm or deny a Dec 3 report in the Star that it was investigating the political secretary, who is believed to work for a senior minister from Umno.
“We would like to state that MACC’s investigation process is subject to confidentiality. As such, MACC hopes that all parties concerned refrain from making any speculation,” said the commission in a statement issued yesterday.
According to the Star, the 30-something top political aide has allegedly amassed millions of ringgit in properties.
Four luxury cars, four houses
Quoting sources, it said that MACC officials had obtained an order to seize several of the aide’s properties and that his bank accounts be frozen.
Among the assets are four luxury cars and four houses.
“They said the commission was investigating the purchased properties — all in the Klang Valley — allegedly obtained from kickbacks received from the approval of several multi-million ringgit projects,” reported the daily.
“It is believed several of the properties seized were under the names of people believed to be proxies for the political secretary, and investigators would be calling on the people whose names were registered as owners.”
The individual, whose boss is an Umno minister said to hail from Penang, will not be the only political aide investigated.
Teoh Beng Hock, the political aide of Selangor cabinet member Ean Yong Hian Wah, was found dead outside the MACC state headquarters in Shah Alam on July 16 after being questioned by the commission’s officials.
