Nik Aziz: Just utter Najib's name individually in prayers

In an about-face following public outcry over his call to Muslims to pray for divine retribution against Najib Abdul Razak, Kelantan Menteri Besar Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat today said it would be suffice for the prayer to be uttered individually.

"As it would hurt the prime minister if his name is mentioned in congregation prayers, just utter (his name) individually," he told reporters today.
A demonstration was held in front of Kota Darulnaim in Kota Baharu yesterday over Nik Aziz's call to the people of Kelantan to pray for the destruction of Najib and Umno if the federal government refused to grant oil royalty to Kelantan.
In his reply, Najib said he could not understand the need for such prayer as the federal government had provided a compassionate fund and allocated over RM7 billion under the Ninth Malaysia Plan for the people of Kelantan although the state was not governed by the Barisan Nasional.
The prime minister said Nik Aziz should be aware that many Muslims viewed the call for divine retribution as extreme and not reflecting the spirit of Islam.
Nik Aziz, who is also PAS spiritual leader, said he regretted that his call for the prayer had been blown out of proportion and created confusion.
He said his call for the prayer at this juncture was to seek divine intervention so that the prime minister has a change of heart over the oil royalty demand.
"If it failed, then only we need to pray for calamities to befall upon him (Najib). I want to ask him to pay the royalty. When others harbour ill intentions against us, should we remain unperturbed," added Nik Aziz.
