According to one of them, Ka Siong and Chew were all smiles during the central committee meeting and even thumped tables in agreement at certain points.

The atmosphere at the meeting was cordial. I'm surprised they attacked us after the meeting," said the central committee member aligned to deputy president Dr Chua Soi Lek.
Ka Siong and Chew wept openly in front of reporters following their removal from the presidential council yesterday and urged central delegates to attend the Nov 28 extraordinary general meeting to 'restore democracy' in the party.
Together with vice-president Liow Tiong Lai, the duo attacked party president Ong Tee Keat and accused him of trying to silence all detractors.
'No confidence, no talk'
The central committee member added that Liow and his allies were all smiles during the central committee meeting and did not protest their removal from the presidential council.
Another central committee member told Malaysiakini that Ka Siong and Chew should not complain about being dropped, because they were not supportive of Ong.
"They openly said they have no confidence in the president, then they should decline being part of the presidential council. That is the only honourable thing to do.
"You can't say ‘I want to be included in your team, but I can't work with you‘. You can‘t have the cake and eat it too," said the central committee member, who is aligned to Ong.
He added that Ka Siong and Chew should not feel left out of the presidential council because both are likely to be invited to participate in meetings as their inputs, given that they are both deputy ministers, would be appreciated.
The central committee members also revealed that proposed resolutions for the Nov 28 EGM had been scrutinised by two prominent lawyers Cecil Abraham and Mohd Shafee Abdullah, along with legal firm Skrine & Co and concluded that the resolutions were against the party constitution.
‘They bulldozed through'
For this reason, the Nov 28 EGM was not endorsed by the central committee after a vote was taken.
A central committee member from Liow's camp, Wee Jeck Seng, said Ong's detractors found it difficult to articulate their case for the Nov 28 EGM during the meeting.
"They were not interested in listening to us. The president quickly put the matter to vote," said Jeck Seng, who denied that the meeting was as cordial as claimed by some central committee members.
Like Ong, Jeck Seng said proponents for the EGM too had sought advice from prominent lawyers who supported the legality of the proposed resolutions.
He added that as heads of wings, Ka Siong and Chew should be members of the presidential council as it is a very important body which discuses party matters and government policies.
"Now, they have removed me and others from the council. Why should they invite us again?" he asked.
