Several members of Parliament will be making a trip to the Maju Institute of Education Development (MIED) office located at the MIC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters at the Parliament’s lobby today, N Gobalakrishnan (PKR-Padang Serai) called on all parliamentarians from both sides of the divide to join in the convoy.

“We would like all the parliamentarians to intervene in the MIED that has sparked off a controversy among Indian leaders.

mic and mied education scandal “We have agreed to visit and will send an entourage to MIED [...] we ask all the MPs regardless their affiliation including our friends from Barisan Nasional (to join us)” said Gobalakrishnan.

He explained the trip was to clear doubts on the status of MIED and on the administration of Asian Institute of Medicine, Science and Technology University (Aimst) as well as claims that MIC president S Samy Vellu plans to ‘hijack’ both the establishments.

“About 20 MPs will board on a bus provided by Parliament to the MIED office and we are hoping they will welcome us with open arms,” said Gobalakrishnan.

“Because of my past relationship with MIC, I know that this visit would not turn out right but I am asking for their cooperation because we would like to be professional and we want them to answer all of our questions,” he added.

Review company accounts call

The MPs’ concerns were raised following Samy Vellu's remarks in September that he would be resigning soon and would be spending his time at these two NGOs which he then claimed t NONE o be separate entities from the MIC.

This prompted former MIC deputy president S Subramaniam ( right ) to urge the board members of MIED to call of an emergency meeting to review the company's accounts.

He also demanded a clarification Samy Vellu over the latter's claim that MIED was a separate entity from the party and a personal effort initiated by him (Samy).

Samy later clarified that although the MIED and Aimst University in Semeling, Kedah were separate entities of the MIC, no individual or MIC leader owned the two entities.

"The ownership between MIC and MIED will be a perpetual relationship and will be part of the MIC," he said.

“None of the MIED trustees are owners of the university and as such the question of ‘hijacking’ the MIED and Aimst University does not arise," he said.
