The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today revealed that it will charge five people, including a parliamentarian tomorrow.

Apart from the parliamentarian, the other four are a former aide to Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim, a company director, the parliamentarian's special aide and the special assistant to a Selangor executive councillor.

NONEEarlier today, Malaysiakini reported that Wong Chuan How, special assistant to Selangor executive councillor Ronnie Liu, would be charged tomorrow.

Although MACC did not name the suspects who would be charged, speculation is rife that the MP, who is said to be a former assemblyperson, is from Umno.

When contacted, MACC director of prosecution Abdul Razak Musa declined to comment, but said: "I am on the way back (to Kuala Lumpur) from Ipoh to charge these individuals."

In a statement issued this evening, MACC said all the suspects would be charged at the Shah Alam Sessions Court.

The anti-corruption body said the MP and his aide were arrested under Section 11(c) of the Anti-Corruption Act 1997.

"This former state rep who is now a parliamentarian was arrested for submitting invoices containing false details when he was a Selangor state rep for a programme that was never executed

"Whereas the aide was arrested for abetment in making the claims for the (abovementioned) programme," read the statement.

Former aide arrested today

As for the former aide to the menteri besar, MACC said the individual was arrested today for an offence committed under the Penal Code.

"He was arrested on suspicion of lying and deceiving the president of a government-linked company in Selangor to sponsor an event organised by the state government. The amount involved is RM50,000."

Commenting on Wong's case, MACC said the 50-year-old businessman will be slapped with multiple charges under the Anti- Corruption Act and Penal Code respectively.

"He will be charged for the offence of submitting invoices with false details to the Sepang District Office for the supply of goods in conjunction with the Merdeka Day celebrations last year.

"He will also be charged on two counts of criminal breach of trust under Section 406 of the Penal Code."

Meanwhile, the company director will also be charged under Section 11(c) of the Anti-Corruption Act.

"He will be charged for submitting invoices with false details to the Hulu Langat district office concerning the supply of goods and necessities for programmes under the Teratai state constituency in Selangor last year. But the supply never materialised."

Wong: I am not afraid

Wong told Malaysiakini this afternoon that he received a notice last Friday asking him to present himself in court tomorrow.

"I will definitely go. I'm not afraid because I have done nothing wrong," he said, adding that he will be represented by a team of four lawyers.

NONEWong was investigated by the MACC in connection with allocations for the Sungai Pelek constituency, which he was tasked to oversee.

On Oct 23, MACC officers had also grilled Liu for two hours regarding the case.

Liu, who has been categorised as a witness, was quizzed on eight documents which the MACC had already obtained from Wong.

The exco later said the documents were regarding expenditure for the Sungai Pelek constituency, with the total amount not exceeding RM20,000.

"The investigation was very thorough, but I am confident everything is in order, and the expenditure is clean.

"There are photographs, identity cards of the recipients and vouchers to prove this," he had added.

MACC is currently investigating several Selangor assemblypersons in the Pakatan Rakyat-ruled state.

This led Pakatan leaders to claim that the investigation was being deliberately carried out to weaken the state government in order to return Barisan Nasional to power.

However, BN has denied this insisting that MACC was acting on its own accord.

The investigation ran into controversy following the death of a political aide, Teoh Beng Hock, in July.

The former aide to DAP's Selangor exco Ean Yong Hian Wah was said to have plunged to his death from the 14th floor of the Selangor MACC office in Shah Alam following a marathon questioning session that dragged into the wee hours of the morning.

The investigation concerned flag purchases amounting to RM2,400.
