Salvaged speaker's robe part to be auctioned

The humiliation and suffering that Pakatan speaker V Sivakumar underwent at the hands of the police when they forcefully disrobed him of his official speaker’s garb, may not have been in vain after all, as there is a plan to auction the piece of the robe that he managed to hold on to during the scuffle.
According to Sivakumar, the official robe that he wore costs about RM700 and was tailored in Kelantan. It is to be worn during the opening ceremony of the State Assembly and at special functions.
The attire has been torn off by over-enthusiastic police personnel in their haste to ensure that Sivakumar does not enter the Perak budget sitting with the official robe to challenge BN-appointed speaker R Ganesan.
On that fateful budget assembly sitting on Wednesday, the police are said to have lured Sivakumar into the basement car park of the State Secretariat and physically attacked him before tearing off the gown from him.
However, Sivakumar had managed to cling onto a piece of the heavily embroidered robe and it will go under the hammer at a special auction organised by Pakatan soon.
Capitalising on BN’s excess
“This piece is historical peice now which shows that Sivakumar had fought hard to save the official robe at the cost of nearly being choked to death by the police,” DAP state secretary Nga Kor Ming told Malaysiakini today.

“This piece will be auctioned off soon as we are working out the details now,” he said.
One of the Pakatan supporters had approached Nga during the tea break at the first Pakatan Rakyat Convention held in Ipoh today, and asked him whether they would want to auction off the torn piece of the now tattered robe.
Pakatan had also recently capitalised on the demolition of the marble monument to highlight the infamous Pakatan state assembly sitting under a tree on March 3.
The Ipoh city council, on the orders of BN state government, had smashed the black marble monument into pieces.
However, Pakatan later auctioned off the pieces to an enthusiastic crowd.
