There is no factionalism in Umno Youth, said its chief Khairy Jamaluddin. He said today's general assembly of the wing was proof that there was no disunity in Umno Youth, unlike previously.

We no longer have Team 1, Team 2 or Team 3 ... today we are one," he said when wrapping up debate at the assembly at the PWTC.

Khairy, who is also Rembau MP, said he could feel the spirit of unity and cameraderie among the 795 delegates present.

NONE At Umno Youths' polls held in March, Khairy ( right ) had defeated two opponents, Mukhriz Mahathir, who is Jerlun MP, and former Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamad Khir Toyo.

In his 15-minute speech, Khairy said Umno Youth was confident of fulfiling the key performance indicators (KPIs) set by the party's top leadership for it which is to increase the movement's membership and register them as voters.

"Let's prove that we are the best Youth contingent in the history of Umno Youth," he said.

Strategic network

Yesterday, party deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin set the KPI for the three Umno wings (Wanita, Youth and Puteri Umno) to increase membership and voter registration, besides forming a strategic network with non-governmental organisations in the next two years.

This is in line with Umno's efforts to gain support from the younger generation.

NONE Earlier, Umno Youth vice-president Razali Ibrahim had said the movement would activate all its machinery to work on attracting about three million new voters, who will become the deciding factor for Umno's success in the next general election.

"There are currently almost 12 million young voters. We can see the big influence these youths have in the future of our country's politics," he said.

He said the transformation must be felt by the people and not just party members.

Meanwhile, Umno supreme council member Ismail Sabri Yaakob, when delivering his speech to adjourn the movement's assembly, said he hoped the unity among the Youth delegates was sincere.

Sincerity, he said, was an important factor as Umno would face another big challenge in two years during the 13th general election.
