"But it is not going to change everything. We need to transform the members themselves," he told reporters after chairing the Umno Youth executive council meeting.

Khairy said the meeting also deliberated on how the movement could play its role in making the 1Malaysia vision a success.

"We must have a common world view as well as a more open political outlook acceptable to all. We should show to the people that the leaderships of Umno Youth and Umno are not just for the Malays but also for Malaysians," he said.

On the MCA crisis

On the crisis in MCA, Khairy said the movement viewed the matter seriously and that he hoped that the party would be able to resolve the problem as soon as possible.

Asked on the statement by former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday urging Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to intervene in resolving the crisis, Khairy said the movement had no objection to the suggestion if it was able to find solutions to the problem.

"It does not necessarily means interfering; it could be in the form of exploring ways to resolve the crisis," he said.

Mahathir had said the intervention should be done behind the scene so as not to touch the sensitivities of any quarter.

"I must confess that when I was BN chairman I did interfere but quietly behind the scene, not openly, as some people may be sensitive.

"As BN chairmen, we can intervene in component parties," he had told reporters. - Bernama
