Umno to discuss constitution amendment on Oct 15

Delegates to the Umno extraordinary general assembly are given a day on Oct 15 to debate and deliberate on the proposed amendment to Umno constitution.

Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Mansor confirmed this to Bernama today.
Delegates were initially given two days on Oct 15 and 16 to discuss the proposed amendment but a party source told Bernama that there were changes to the schedule due to time constraint.
"After the president's keynote address, the 2009 Umno general assembly will adjourn and the extraordinary general assembly will begin with the tabling of the proposed amendment by Umno vice-president Hishammudin Hussein, who is also the chairperson of the main committee on the constitutional amendment," the source said.
This would be followed by the debate and if there were no debates, the session would proceed with the taking of votes which would be done openly, he said.
"All matters pertaining to the amendment will be concluded on that day itself," he said.
Bernama was told that the session on that day was expected to finish by 6pm as the delegates would be attending the Umno general assembly dinner scheduled at 8pm at the Dewan Tun Razak 1, Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC).
The general assembly will resume the next day to debate the president's keynote address.
"This will also be concluded on the same day," the source said.
The 2009 Umno general assembly at the PWTC is scheduled for Oct 13-16 and to be attended by 2,500 delegates.
This is the first time that an extraordinary general assembly is held during an Umno general assembly.
