DAP's cry: Senator Warlord, serve people first

This was the stinging message from the DAP to Senator T Murugiah (right), Minister in the Prime Minister's Department.
The rebuke comes in the wake of Murugiah reportedly advising both the Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat camps not to raise the controversial cow-head stamping issue during the Bangan Pinang state by-election in Negeri Sembilan.
He is said to be seeking the cooperation of the Home Ministry to have police on duty during the campaigning period arrest anyone raising the issue as a precautionary measure against possible racial flare ups.
Responding to this, Perak state DAP vice-chairman and national labour bureau chief A Sivanesan said that that Umno members were to be for blamed for the cow-head controversy and Murugiah has no business meddling in this issue which affects the interests of the Indian community.
The Bagan Pinang seat considered a BN stronghold,fell vacant after the death of the Barisan's Azman Mohammad Noor on Sept 4.
Former Umno vice-president and mentri besar Isa Samad is BN's candidate for the by-election while his challenger is Negeri Sembilan PAS commissioner Zulkefly Mohamad.

Saturday is nomination day with the polling fixed for Oct 11.
Sivanesan, describing Murugiah as a nomad, continued "a political outcast without a political base and yet he wants to meddle in political matters that affect the nation, especially the Indian community".
Even his Umno political bosses Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein are silent on the matter, whereas this deputy minister, acting beyond his powers, is trying to get political mileage by fanning the cow-head issue " said Sivanesan.
"He should stop trying to act like a political warlord to please his Umno masters and act like a humble servant to address the issues affecting the public," he added.
Sivanesan charged that Murugiah is so desperate about his political survival with the coalition that he will say anything to be in the good books of Umno.
He also dismissed the senator as a backdoor politician as he was not elected but appointed to his post and so, will be unable to assess the mood and the needs of the Indian community correctly to be an effective leader for Indians.
Sivanesan criticised Murugiah for his claim of enrolling more then 100,000 members from the PPP in his so-called faction.
Mururgiah who was the former PPP youth chief had challenged the authority of party president M Kayveas to gain control of the top post but failed when the Registrar of Societies (ROS) had ruled in favour of the latter and he became a deputy minister without a party base.
Sivanesan wants the ROS to investigate as to how Murugiah is to recruit members for the PPP when he has been expelled from the party.
He also raised the question of access to PPP membership forms for his nationwide membership drive when Kayveas had stated only party headquarters had the original serialised application forms.
"This shows that the recruitment drive is illegal, going against the rules and regulations of the ROS," he claimed.
