DAP aide Wong's bail extended to October

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today extended the bail of Selangor exco member Ronnie Liu's special assistant Wong Chuan How to Oct 20.

Wong, (right) who was investigated for alleged misappropriation of funds allocated for aid programmes in Sungai Pelek district last month, was supposed to report back to the commission today.
"But his bail was extended without giving any reasons," Wong's lawyer John Fernandez told Malaysiakini today.
He added that they just asked them to return to the Putrajaya headquarters at 9am on Oct 20 at (to find out the next course of action).
According to Fernandez , who is also Seremban parliamentarian, the meeting with the commission lasted only half an hour this morning and then predicted three situations that could likely occur in his client's case.
"First, they would probably extend the bail again until the Deepavali celebration," quipped Fernandez, probably suspecting that today's bail extension could be due to Sunday's Hari Raya celebration.
"Second, MACC would probably charge Wong in court or third, they would tell us that the bail has expired and then drop the charge," he added.
"Basically, MACC is just like the police. They like to investigate, release on bail, get it extended and then drop the case," said an irate Fernandez
Wong was accompanied by Fernandez and another lawyer, Cha Kee Chin, who is an assemblyperson for Bukit Kempayan, Negeri Sembilan this morning.
Could face three charges
On Aug 20, both Fernandez and Cha had said Wong, who is also a Sepang councillor could face three possible charges - one under the Penal Code and two under the MACC Act 2008.
The charges are an alleged criminal breach of trust under Section 405 of Penal Code, one for allegedly "intending to deceive" under Section 18 of MACC Act and lastly for allegedly using his office or position for gratification under Section 23 of the same Act.
The investigation carried out by MACC was in the wake of a series of allegations that appeared in a blog titled ‘Truth for Teoh Beng Hock'.
The blog had posted documents to back its claim that 84 'projects' amounting to more than RM200,000 in the Sungai Pelek constituency were awarded to Wong.
Sungai Pelek is a state seat held by Yap Ee Wah of the opposition Barisan Nasional.
