The New Straits Times and the Star both led with a the compromise reached by MCA president Ong Tee Keat and his sacked deputy Dr Chua Soi Lek to hold a single extraordinary general meeting sometime later this month.

The Sun meanwhile reported on former Selangor menteri besar Dr Khir Toyo spending six hours at the Malaysia Anti Corruption Commission yesterday over allegations of graft.

Malay newspapers

Utusan Malaysia blasted the MIC and asked the party to issue an apology to former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad over a party member's call for a ‘garland of slippers' to be placed over Mahathir's image.

Berita Harian also condemned the MIC delegates for that attack on Mahathir.

Tamil newspapers

All three Tamil dailies - Tamil Nesan, Malaysia Nanban and Makkal Osai - reported on the ‘garland of slippers' issue with party president S Samy Vellu assuring that action will be taken against the errant delegate.

The three dailies also reported on the demolition of Kampung Buah Pala in Penang yesterday.

Chinese newspapers

All major Chinese dailies led with the agreement reached by two warring factions in the MCA to hold a single EGM.

New Straits Times highlighted on the need for a proper childcare centres to be provided in the public and private sector. This stems from the calls by Indonesia to implement a RM800 minimum wage for maids hailing from there. The daily stated that more and more women must work in order to make ends meet and cannot afford to forsake a paying job to stay at home to care for their children.

Utusan Malaysia commented on the need for Indonesia to douse the hatred feeling among its citizens on Malaysia. It said anti-Malaysia sentiments among Indonesia were causing problems.

Berita Harian called on preventive measures to be stepped up to prevent the spread of H1N1 in order for a happy Hari Raya season.
China Press said a proposal by Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia president William Cheng for both BN and Pakatan Rakyat to form their own disciplinary committees to control seditious statements made by their politicians as being impractical.
