MCA secretary-general Wong Foon Meng wants supporters of sacked party deputy president Dr Chua Soi Lek to submit the list of signatutes of one-third of the delegates and state why an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) should be called.

NONE "The faster they can do this, the better, then I can arrange for a meeting between both sides," he told reporters after receiving a courtesy call from the secretary-general of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, William F Shija, here, today.

"After the two requests are met, I will call the representative of party president Ong Tee Keat and Dr Chua's who's asking for an EGM to be convened, to discuss the resolution and how we should conduct the EGM," he added.

Wong, who is also Dewan Negara president, also repeated his call to any quarters requisitioning for an EGM to adhere to the provisions of the party constitution.

Ong had also instructed Wong to hold an EGM following the sacking of Dr Chua for tarnishing the party's image by involving in a sex scandal, of which the DVD on the sex act had been circulated to the public.

Chua, the former health minister, had claimed to have more than 800 signatures of delegates to enable for an EGM to be held where his supporters would demand for the decision to sack him to be withdrawn and to accept him back into the party.

Terengganu MCA will wait

Meanwhile, in KUALA TERENGGANU, Terengganu MCA chief Toh Chin Yaw said the state MCA did not encourage its members to support any side or sign the petition until the EGM was called.

"As Terenganu MCA does not have that many members, an open show of support for any side will only disrupt harmony and stability in the state MCA," he said after handing out face masks in a campaign to check the spread of Influenza A (H1N1) today.

Toh, who is also state Industrial, Trade and Environment Committee chairman, said he would give members the freedom to make their decision at the EGM as he believed they were mature and wise enough.

On another note, Toh who is Bandar assemblyman, said 20,000 face masks were given out today to be distributed to schools in his constituency.
