Today is the deadline issued by MCA secretary-general Wong Foon Meng, for all parties demanding an EGM to send in their proposed resolutions, in order to arrange for a 2in1 EGM.

Sacked MCA deputy president Dr Chua Soi Lek's faction today told the media that they are going to the MCA headquarters by 3.30 pm and many anticipated that the faction will submit in their demands today.

But that was not to be.

NONEChua's top men Loh Seng Kok and Tan Chai Ho (right), both Central Committee Members, went there instead to discuss the issue with Wong.

Both parties came out empty-handed because MCA president Ong Tee Keat and the Chua factions refused to reveal their agenda.

This means that the 2-in-1 EGM proposed by the MCA may never see the light of day.

Wong arrived at MCA HQ today on 3.30pm and said that he hasn't received any letters of demand for an EGM.

He also disclosed that the date of the EGM called by the president has not been set yet.

Loh and Tan arrived 5 minutes laterbut they refused to comment whether they were going to send in the demand letter today and asked reporters to wait for their press conference.

After the meeting, Tan revealed that their purpose today is just purely to discuss and not hand in any demand letter.

Tan, who has been dubbed ‘the commander in chief' for the Chua supporters, announced that he is the president of a group called "Central delegates action committee", representing some of the MCA central delegates who wants an EGM.

2-in-1or 2 separate EGMs?

"In view of the fact that the secretary-general had set a deadline for today, we came and tried to discuss the matter."

Tan insisted that, as long as Ong's supporters don't hand in their proposed resolutions, they will also not submit theirs.

Tan claimed their resolutions are ready and with them.

"It's only fair that both parties to reveal their resolutions at once, so we will wait until Ong Tee Keat's supporters send in their resolutions."

He added that Wong didn't give them any date on when Ong's supporters will hand in their resolutions.

Asked if he supported the 2-in-1 EGM, Chua's supporters said that it all depends on the resolutions proposed by their rivals.

Only then will they consider whether to have a 2in1 EGM or two separate EGMs.

'Not following proper procedure'

Later, Wong issued a statement after the meeting that Tan "never called for an EGM according to the rules of the party constitution."


NONE"There was no submission of requisition for an EGM pursuant to Article 30.3 of the party constitution during the meeting.

"As to date, I am not sure whether they have the required number of central delegates as they have not provided the names and signatures of the requisitionists or details of the proposed resolutions," he said.

Wong also claimed that both factions have discussed the possibility to consolidate different agendas to ensure that only one EGM is held.

"They have agreed to fix a date to come together to jointly agree on the proposed resolutions and date of merged EGM," he said.

Wong said he will discuss with the MCA president on the proposal to have a single EGM which incorporates the views of both sides as to the drafting of the resolutions.

He also refuted Tan's statement that Ong had not submitted the resolutions, saying that the resolutions have been received but he will not disclose them.

Meanwhile, the MCA HQ has sent out text messages to inform its central committee members regarding the postponement of the coming CC meeting.

The meeting, which was scheduled to be held on Sept 11, has been postponed until further notice.
