Aggressive tailgating and not using indicators are the most annoying habits of Malaysian drivers, based on an online poll conducted by Malaysians Unite for Road Safety (Mufors).

According to Mufors, out of its 1,000 online survey participants, 11.2 percent or 112 respondents felt that aggressive tailgating, which included forcing other drivers to make way and flashing of headlights, annoyed them most.
The same number of respondents also had a problem with drivers who did not use their indicators, said Mufors chairman Noorizah Abdul Hamid, who is also the managing director of PLUS Expressways Berhad (Plus), in a statement here today.
She said Mat Rempit antics (9 percent) and road hogging (8.8 percent) also stood out as annoying habits on Malaysian roads in the survey.
"There are 15 more annoying Malaysian road habits listed in the poll, which include beating traffic lights, driving above the speed limit, driving on the emergency lanes, making illegal U-turns, jaywalking, haphazard parking and talking on the mobile phone while driving," she said.
Noorizah said the poll was conducted on the Mufors website and she hoped that Malaysians would visit the website and take part in the poll and voice their concerns over Malaysian road habits.
She said in conjunction with Mufors 090909, the public could give ideas this coming Wednesday from 9am to 9pm on how to reduce accidents and save lives.
The Mufors' initiative which started on Aug 18, is a community project to enable Malaysians to voice their thoughts and concerns about road safety in the country. The project is supported by Plus and it partners.
