Fong: Reconsider sacking

Ong: "Soi lek is the only leader that owns up to his mistakes", "The man has bravely admitted he was the man in the DVD", "Chua took full responsibility for the scandal". I wonder if Chua would be so brave and so honest if his face was not recognizable in the video.

Barrister at law: This decision firmly anchors a current trend in Malaysian politics and public life - the insecurity our leaders have of having talent around them. Every one of our leaders on both sides of the political divide seem intent on removing or eliminating possible contenders.

Public servants are equally so minded in their quest for the famous 6-month extension. What surprises me is that even as MCA faces the greatest crisis of its existence in being part of a government which is under siege, Ong has dedicated his time and energy to consolidation of his personal interests rather than the greater good.

1 Malaya: A similar breakup will happen in MIC if Subramaniam is elected as deputy president. This had happened to Anwar when Mahathir sacked him and now to Chua. Definitely it will happen to Subra as well.

Disgusted: Chua is the only leader that owns up to his mistakes, none of the leaders, present nor past, have the political courage to do so. He has shown us the way to come clean. Sex is between two people - maybe only their relatives are hurt by an affair. Corruption is totally different; it hurts the whole nation as 27 million people pay taxes.

Ong Tee Keat and all the MCA cronies, can you come up with a more imaginative excuse to sack your deputy? Why do you have to sentence a person twice?

Victor: Once the cancerous cells have been removed, there is a healing process. It will take time to heal. Good to remove the cancerous cells before things get worse in MCA.

: All politicians should take an oath of conduct before taking office. You can't simply commit adultery and apologise to be a hero. Timely action but a little too late for the MCA.

Dr. Jacob George: Ong Tee Keat and those behind this move are plainly stupid! Their action has further divided MCA and soon will result in those who partook in this witch-hunt to be themselves removed, including Malaysia's worst health minister to date!

As for Dr Chua Soi Lek, he will walk with his head high for he has apologised for the scandal and resigned as a minister and parliamentarian to take moral responsibility an act that is yet to be repeated by any other minister or politician to date in 1Malaysia! Ong Tee Keat and his team, by this very act, has also sidelined the decision of delegates who elected Chua as a deputy president at party polls last October!

: He had to be sacked. Imagine if he took on the President and won in the next MCA polls? That was what Mahathir did to Anwar in 1988; Anwar was stripped of his UMNO membership although no wrongdoing was proven. This was to head off a challenge to Mahathir in the UMNO polls.

Christine Yong
: I think a sex scandal is personal. He took responsibility. He was a victim of some MCA crooks. Let those who did not sin at all throw stones. Look at your own deeds.

He is a respected person, he contributed to the Health Ministry when he was health minister. Just compare him to the current health minister who has done very little. He has all the credentials to be a leader, speaks with brains and has class.

Che Din Sg Buloh
: Chua took full responsibility for the scandal. No one was as forward thinking. He's the real hero of the MCA.
