Eventhough the Permatang Pasir state constituency is a PAS stronghold, the party is holding fast to its stand of winning by a one-vote majority come polling day tomorrow.

PAS' election director Mahfuz Omar (below) said the party did not want to harbour high hopes of retaining the seat despite having in his possession information on the voting statistics.

"It's all in my pocket now. I know how many votes our candidate will get, how many the BN candidate will get and therefore the majority for our candidate.

"But I do not wish to say anything as I'm afraid there would be last minute efforts to sway PAS supporters.

NONE"What I can say is that we want to target a one-vote win," he said at a news conference at the PAS operations room here today.

The Permatang Pasir by-election is a straight between PAS candidate, Mohd Salleh Man, 52, and Barisan Nasional's Rohaizat Othman (left), 38.

The by-election is being held after the death of PAS' Datuk Mohd Hamdan Abd Rahman who died due to heart failure on July 31.

We leave it to the voters

Mahfuz said his party was satisfied with its election machinery.
"PAS hopes that voters make a good choice and we leave it to them," he said.

NONEHe said PAS did not politicise or make personal attacks on the alleged financial misappopriation involving Rohaizat and his former law firm partner Yusri Isahak.

"The allegations that we politicised and made attacks on Rohaizat are not true," he said, when commenting on Yusri's regret on the personal attacks on Rohaizat following his statement on the land deal involving the Penang Rubber Smallholders Cooperative.

Yusri said that various allegations have been hurled against Rohaizat following his press statement which were against his original intention of making the statement and expressed sympathy for Rohaizat.
