In the heat of campaigning, Muhyiddin Yassin coincidently performed the tarawih prayers together with Anwar Ibrahim at the Bukit Indera Muda Jamek Mosque, Permatang Pasir late yesterday night.

The deputy prime minister, who was accompanied by Perak BN Menteri Besar Zambry Abd Kadir, Penang Umno liaison committee deputy chief Zainal Abidin Osman and Permatang Pauh Umno division chief Abdul Jalil Abdul Majid, arrived at the mosque at 8.40pm.

Anwar, who is opposition leader and PKR adviser, showed up 15 minutes later after the prayers had started.

Muhyiddin and Umno leaders, who were on the campaign trail in the Permatang Pasir state by-election, were in the front row while Anwar was a few steps to the left at the rear of the congregation.

However, Anwar left at 10.05pm while Muhyiddin and others in the congregation continued with the prayers.

The two politicians did not appear to have talked to each other.

Also present was Penang Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Committee chairperson Abdul Malik Abul Kassim.

Muhyiddin earlier presented Socso aid at Kampung Paya Barisan Nasional Operations Room before attending a tahlil prayer and the breaking of fast at Permatang Mosque.
