Umno info chief espouses his pendulum theory

According to Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan’s pendulum theory, the Permatang Pasir state seat is as good as in BN’s bag.
"Going by this pendulum theory of mine, the BN will win (in the by-election on Tuesday)," he told reporters as he went on a house-to-house campaign in the constituency.

He said the BN had won the seat in 1995. In 1999, it lost the seat. It almost won the seat in 2004, losing by only 600 votes, while last year, it lost by more than 5,000 votes.
As such, Ahmad Maslan expects voters to swing back to BN in this by-election.
Meanwhile, the campaigning in the by-election is proceeding as usual despite the fasting month of Ramadan which began today.
Both candidates - Umno’s Rohaizat Othman, 38, and PAS' Mohd Salleh Man, 52 - were out and about meeting residents as usual.
Besides the breaking of fast with voters, there are also BN leaders who spent time having a meal in residents' houses before fasting kicked off.
Jerlun parliamentarian Mukhriz Mahathir ate in one resident's house early this morning.
PAS expects lower voter turnout
PAS election director Mahfuz Omar said the party's election machinery was functioning as normal except that ceramahs were held after the 'terawih' prayers.
He said the PAS candidate had visited the houses of more than 70 percent of voters in the constituency.
Mahfuz is however expecting a lower turnout on Tuesday as many voters would have to get time off from work to go to the polling stations.
He suggested that workers write to their employers seeking permission to vote, and attach a copy of their voter registration slip with the letter.
The Election Commission should monitor the situation to ensure that voters were able to fulfill their right to vote, he said.
