Selangor PKR does not have any information that its Pelabuhan Kelang assemblyperson Badrul Hisham Abdullah will be defecting to Umno as reported by a Chinese daily this evening.

Chinese daily Nanyang in its evening edition quoted a state PKR source as claiming that Badrul Hisham has accepted Barisan Nasional's offer to defect.

NONEThe report added that Selangor PKR will be issuing a statement in two days to claim that Badrul Hisham had been "bought over" by BN.

The purpose of the statement is to shame Badrul Hisham and force him to resign, thus paving the pave way for a by-election.

Commenting on the report, Selangor PKR secretary Amirudin Shaari said the defection issue was not raised during a state political bureau meeting involving all state PKR elected representatives and parliamentarians on Monday. Badrul Hisham was, however, absent from the meeting.

Instead, said Amiruddin, the state leadership's instruction was for him to issue showcause letter to Badrul Hisham.

According to Amirudin, the party was seeking explanations from Badrul Hisham over several complaints by the public, party grassroots and the press that he was under-performing as a state rep.

"We will also be seeking a status update on his health. He is on medical leave and was absent for the entire state assembly sitting last month. If he is not well, we can advise him on possible remedies," said Amirurdin, who is also Batu Caves state representative.

The letter would be issued in a few days.

Badrul Hisham is widely attributed as an accidental state rep, elected during the massive vote swing towards the opposition during the March 2008 general election.

This is not the first time rumours surfaced about his defection. He was reported ‘missing' following the fall of the Pakatan Rakyat government in Perak resulting from three defections.
