The MCA did not intend to intervene but when it was implicated in the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) issue, the party had to make a stand and clarify the matter, said secretary-general Wong Foon Meng.

“As a party, we would not like to intervene but when an accusation has been made and the MCA was linked to the RM10 million loan or whatever it is, we have to make a stand and make a clarification," he said at a press conference after the party Central Committee Meeting at the MCA building at Jalan Segget, Johor Bahru today.

He was responding to news reports that Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Tiong King Sing had told MCA to mind its own business in his reaction to the party's denial of the RM10 million "donation" he had given.

Tiong had said: "I passed the money to a person, not to the party. Why is the party making noise?"

Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd is the turnkey contractor for the PKFZ.

Chua attends CC meeting

Wong also said that the committee members at the meeting unanimously supported the call by party president Ong Tee Keat, who is also the transport minister, for a transparent investigation of the scandal.

He said members also supported Ong's action in lodging a police report and taking a legal suit against Tiong's accusation that he had allegedly given RM10 million to the MCA.

Earlier, Ong said he had instructed all party members including the top office bearers to mobilise the party's election machinery to help BN in the Permatang Pasir by-election campaign.

All including deputy president Chua Soi Lek attended the meeting except for four vice-presidents Kong Cho Ha, Liow Tiong Lai, Dr Ng Yen Yen, who had other official commitments, while Tan Kok Hong was on sick leave.

Chua was seen shaking hands with his nemesis, Ong, but left halfway through the meeting. All of those present donned surgical masks in the wake of the A(H1N1) epidemic.

The meeting was in Johor Bahru here as Ong was attending the ground-breaking ceremony for SRJK (C) Pei Chih in the morning.
