It appears that embattled MCA president Ong Tee Keat is wasting no time in clearing his name and securing the support of party grassroots in the wake of the RM10 million donation allegation.

NONEOng, who is also transport minister, has called for a ‘special briefing session' for party grassroots at the MCA headquarters this Sunday.

Party division leaders were informed about the meeting via SMS last night and formal invitation letters were sent out this morning.

Although the SMS and letters did not state the agenda, the session is expected to focus on the latest revelation and issues surrounding the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) fiasco.

Apart from division chiefs, other division office bearers, including youth and wanita chiefs have been invited as well.

According to a party source, this is the ‘biggest meeting' ever called by Ong since he took over the reins last October.

"If all the leaders show up, the meeting will see an attendance of around 1,200 people," he said.

‘Enemy within'

It is also learned that the MCA president will meet the central committee members in batches to address the allegation and boost morale.

NONEYesterday, the top leadership showed their solidarity by attending a press conference called by Ong to deny the allegation against him.

On Wednesday, Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Cclub chairperson Tiong King Sing claimed that he had given the MCA president RM10 million in donation.

Tiong is also the chief executive officer of Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd, a major player in the PKFZ scandal.

In a related development, Chinese newspapers quoted Ong as saying in Kedah last night that there was a campaign underway to oust him.

He said MCA has been infiltrated by outside forces, and there is an ‘enemy from within' who is trying to raise RM100 million to push him out.

"If this money is put into proper use, it is enough to build 20 new Chinese primary schools," he added.
