No gag order on Pakatan reps

Pakatan Rakyat elected representatives will not be bound by any gag order, to stop them from publicly attacking each other, instead the opposition coalition's leadership has agreed to use the proper channels to settle issues.

That the DAP-PAS fracas could be settled by the Selangor government is an indication that Pakatan is still united.

Pakatan Rakyat elected representatives will not be bound by any gag order, to stop them from publicly attacking each other, instead the opposition coalition's leadership has agreed to use the proper channels to settle issues.
Coalition chief and Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim said component parties have agreed to use the "right channels" like forums at the state and federal levels to iron out problems.
He said the presence of a disciplinary committee will help smoothen the Pakatan structure in whenever problems arise.
"If the problems cannot be settled, then we should refer the matter to the disciplinary panel for the next course of action," he added.
Anwar was speaking to reporters after chairing a three-hour meeting on "Strengthening Pakatan Rakyat" at the Tropicana Golf Resort and Club in Kuala Lumpur.
Also present were DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim.
Yesterday, it was reported that the Pakatan leadership might impose a gag order to put a lid on the ever increasing open squabbles.
A recent example being the 'beer ban' proposal in Selangor, which saw PAS and DAP going after each other over the issue triggered by their different stands.
Prior to this, Kedah DAP had threatened to pull out of the PAS-led state government when a pig abattoir was demolished.
Hadi: We are united despite differences
Although there were criticisms thrown each other, Hadi said this did not mean that Pakatan is not united.
Referring to the beer case in Selangor between PAS commissioner and state exco Hasan Ali and his colleague Ronnie Liu (right) he said the state government "was smart" in settling their differences.
"We even managed to resolve some issues that had been dragging on from the previous state government, this shows we are united despite the differences," said Hadi.
According to Anwar, Pakatan has already proposed to formalise the coalition's structure and the party secretariat will study all available options in the effort to strengthen the Pakatan leadership at national and state levels.
As an example of how such a body could be effective, said Anwar pointed out that the secretariat had managed to resolve the "contentious issue" of the beer ban.
"(And) the relevant excos Hasan and Liu have clarified the issues and we have resolved that," he said.
