A pro-Internal Security Act (ISA) coalition has urged the authorities to detain Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang under the security law.

Apart from the trio, the group also wants Anti-ISA Movement (GMI) chairperson Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh to be arrested as well.

NONEThe four, it added, should be detained in connection with Saturday’s rally in Kuala Lumpur, which saw tens of thousands of protesters taking to the streets to voice their objection towards the ISA.

The call was made by the Majlis Gabungan NGO Pembela Negara (Magaran), which comprises some 50 organisations that support the ISA.

Magaran legal adviser Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz said the four should be arrested under the ISA for practicing 'premeditated violence' when organising the rally.

Why is the police afraid?

"Why is the police afraid to (arrest them)? The police's duty is to protect civilians like us. We want to do our business, like sell jambu, burger and drive our taxis.

"The police has to take care of us, not give face to Anwar and his cohorts in GMI. Arrest them!" he thundered at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur this evening.

NONEPermuafakatan Ummah (Pewaris) deputy chairperson II Rahimuddin Md Harun and Pertubuhan Kebajikan & Dakwah Islamiah Semalaysia (Pekida) Selangor deputy chairperson Zainal Hashim were also present.

Meanwhile, Khairul said GMI's failure to adhere to police's orders to cancel its street rally has led to the damage of public property and caused inconvenience to the people.

He added that Magaran is in the process of compiling evidence of the losses incurred by businessmen and the public.

This will be used as a basis to initiate legal action against GMI.

Khairul, who claims to be a PAS member from Kajang, also challenged Anwar to a debate on the use of ISA.

According to him, not all opposition members agree with the stand of their leaders that the security law should be abolished.
