Fix mind on NKRA: PM to civil service

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak wants members of the administration and civil service to fix their mindset on implementing the six National Key Result Areas (NKRA) that were announced
recently with full commitment and determination.

He said this was to ensure that the two main objectives, namely fulfilling the aspirations and expectations of the people and seeing the country's major transformation, were achieved.

"Now, we have entered into the action mode, and no longer on the objectives or targets but the methods of action, that is, what needs to be done," he was quoted as saying by Bernama at the monthly assembly of the Prime Minister's Department in Putarajaya today.

Last Monday, Najib announced six National Key Result Areas (NKRA) in the Key Performance Indicators (KPI), including efforts to reduce the crime rate, and the war against corruption.

Other areas were expanding access to quality and affordable education; raising the standard of living of the low-income group; strengthening infrastructure in the rural and remote areas; and improving public transport in the medium-term.

Responsibility and accountability

Najib said the six NKRAs had been identified and each sector had its KPI which formed a commitment for members of the administration and civil service to work together as a team to fulfill what had been stipulated.

"This is closely linked to responsibility and accountability which means that we are willing to sacrifice our interest, in fact, we are willing to be criticised or penalised if we fail to achieve the main targets that we have identified," he said.

He said the government felt it was crucial to place the key result areas and the targets that must be achieved within a certain time frame because every field was closely linked to the people's taste and expectations.

"In this regard, I wish to express my deepest gratitude and appreciation not only to the members of the administration but also the civil servants from the KSN (Chief Secretary to the Government) to the top government officers who are most committed in achieving the national key result areas.

"This is a good sign for us when we are most committed to the spirit of togetherness.

"I believe there is a strong possibility that what the government aspires for and what the people expects will become a reality," he said.
