On NEP 'dead and buried 18 years ago'

Meng Yee: Dear Tengku Razaleigh, you are the lone voice in Umno who still speak reason and wisdom. Your commentaries on the state of the federation and your statements resonate with many young Malaysians who seek a better Malaysia. A civil society, just and free from those who oppress and hold no regard to the laws of the land nor the constitution.

The latest incident is a case in point of a political game gone awry which led to the death of an innocent young man. There is so much that is wrong with our country and there is a lack of political will on the part of our leaders to correct it. Reforms will never happen as long as the vicious cycle of "you scratch my back and I scratch yours" continue between government and businesses.

There is little sense of dignity in serving the nation and it all boils down to how much I can get from every contract. It is a sad fact of a slippery road which I believe Umno and the Barisan Nasional has gone; beyond the point of return.

Tengku, your wisdom and idealism is still very much relevant despite what Umno says. I believe the Pakatan Rakyat government, in particular PKR would look forward to your entry into the party. Certainly there is much that is not right with the Pakatan government and it is far from perfect.

However, there is a sincerity and tenacity in making PKR a truly multi-racial party. Your contribution to Malaysia, inspite of what Umno says can continue and it will be very much more appreciated in PKR.

I hope you will seriously consider and with the wisdom from the Almighty God, empower you to make the right decision to continue to build this nation for our generation and the generations to come.

I humbly ask that you would consider joining the struggle at PKR and help us realise the ‘Dawn of a New Malaysia’.

Ganapathy Ramasamy: The new prime minister is coming up with popular programmes that can win over voters. The 1Malaysia policy and the merit-based scholarship proposals
are just the beginning, and this may help BN covet votes from Pakatan.

However, Pakatan needs to only pray that there are enough Umno leaders out there to negate the efforts of the prime minister. Perak MB’s overturning of a number of popular programmes and policies of Pakatan is a case in point.

It is time Pakatan looks objectively at not only their plans and policies but also the activities of their elected representatives so that they will be able to retain the seats they won. If they do not, they can forget about an alternate government.

Kaisim: The recent by-election at Manek Urai, Kelantan showed that Umno is back to its old tricks. It has offered everything crooked but luckily the voters in Manek Urai were not-so-crooked as the BN politicians.

Some of them have gone round in the campaign to stoke up racial issues again. They talked nothing about the affirmative issues but focused on promoting Malay rights. They attacked on Pakatan Rakyat and against the issues of pig farms in the country. They also alleged prominently the increase influence of non-Malays. while other important leader declared "Umno will fight to the last drop of blood to protect Malay rights, the status of the Malay rulers, Bahasa Malaysia and Islam".

Do we need to shed blood to protect something? It looks like our politicians have nothing positive to tell the people except stoking racial issues to incite hatred. What is PM Najib`s 1Malaysia plan? Here we have the PM telling the people about his big plan for Malaysians. On the contrary, Umno members are singing a different tune.

Pig rearing is a big industry in Malaysia and other countries. The Chinese have reared pigs for many years even before Merdeka. Why do some unreasonable people want to put a stop to their livelihood? There is no logic to justify their argument.

Pollution happens everywhere in the country but people do not bother about it. We must have strict enforcement and good officers to solve any shortcoming. Merely to break the rice bowls of someone is not the way to solve problems.

The new generation of Malaysians know the Rukun Negara well. All of us want to live peace and harmony in order to build this country. We are not interested to take away others rights. Nothing can be gained from pandering to the masses for the sole purpose of political mileage.
