Save MCA group resurrected to target Ong

The Save MCA Committee which pressured former president Ong Ka Ting to quit before the party elections last year was reactivated today when it filed a report against current president Ong Tee Keat.

Two members of the committee, Theng Book and Wong Leong, submitted a complaint letter at MCA headquarters in Jalan Ampang this morning.

They urged the party's disciplinary committee to invesitgate Ong for having tainted the party's image.

The duo were driven out by party workers when they tried to hold press conference at one of the meeting rooms inside the headquarters.

They then switched venues and held the conference at the lobby.

Theng, the Puchong division vice chairman said four ‘sins' of the president warranted an investigation by the disciplinary committee.

Party's image sullied

First, although the sex video scandal which haunted party deputy president Chua Soi Lek had ended, but Ong is adamant in reviving and re-investigating the issue, which has tainted the party image.

Second, Ong has allowed, and even welcome outsiders to establish an ‘MCA integrity group', paving the way for external elements to intervene in party matters.

Third, although Ong (right) is a party president and minister, he has repeatedly claimed that he and his family were threatened by underworld elements, thus misleading the public into believing they are a rampant force in Malaysia.

Fourth, Ong's statement accusing a particular individual of trying to get a minister-ship through the ‘backdoor' has created a negative perception that there was no respect for the party and the government.

No confidence motion

Wong, the former PJ Utara division chief said Ong's statements hurt the image of the party and its leaders, that's why they decided to file the complaint.

"We hoped that Ong would put aside his personal agenda and work with Chua (left) to prepare for next general election," he said.

Theng and Wong denied that they acted under Chua's instruction to push for an extraordinary general meeting and pass a no-confidence motion against Ong.

"I never heard of such a thing as calling for an EGM. Ong is the one who keeps talking about it," he said.

Theng said they were not worried about disciplinary action by the party as "it is out of their control".
