I'm greatly disappointed with Dr Lim Teck Ghee's open letter, calling for MACC Advisory Board members to resign en bloc.

Dr Lim, of all people, should know that shirking responsibility is not the way forward and is certainly not the way to settle or look at problems.

We know the political affiliations of Dr Lim and without question the call to the whole group to resign is just to gather political mileage.

In times of such great sorrow and anger, I look to the highly-esteemed advisory board to get cracking and do what they have been appointed to do.

Their first order of business should be to call for a Royal commission.

Will resigning bring any respite to anybody? Shame on you Dr Lim.

I believe that this is the time to act without fear or favour, that is the duty of honourable men.

Why should the board resign?

Have our opposition ever resigned when they have done something wrong, or even for that matter the ruling party themselves.

The culture of resigning does not exist here in Malaysia the way it does in Japan and Korea. When shame and dishonour befalls the people responsible for the wrongs of their companies or departments, they do the honourable thing and resign.

What has the MACC advisory group done or not done to feel ashamed about or are they afraid to assume any sort responsibility and take the easy way out by resigning?

Dr Lim must know that this culture he want to implement, resides in Malaysia is a tool for political groups to win points and throw institutions into disarray

Does Dr Lim, who is also the director of a think tank, believe that when a new government comes into power, all institutions such as the police, MACC and others not liked by the opposition, will just disappear the next day.

Be men of honour

What if a royal commission finds the young man's death was not the fault of the MACC (although their methods will be scrutinised and maybe changed), will you then ask the Advisory board to return?

Honourable men there are. One who I respect tremendously is Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam, who said something to this effect: At times when I was needed the most, I never shirked responsibilities, and carried out my job without fear or favour.

So come on Dr Lim, I hope that it was not your political affiliations that made you write the letter.

Lastly Dr Lim, as a respected man, you should encourage bring about change through the ballot box, and not try to bring down our institutions to serve the needs of certain people or parties.

The fact that your letter was published in Malaysiakini and not the main stream media is testimony of your intentions.
