'Justice for Beng Hock' goes online

The controversial and tragic death of political aide Teoh Beng Hock has attracted a lot of attention from all walks of life, and now an online petition was launched to seek justice for the 30-year-old.
The controversial and tragic death of political aide Teoh Beng Hock has attracted a lot of attention from all walks of life, and now an online petition was launched to seek justice for the 30-year-old.
The online petition, which was launched by a user named "Pasukan Keadilan KL dan Selangor", demanded the setting up of a royal commission of inquiry to "independently and thoroughly investigate this tragic incident".
As of 1pm, the online petition has attracted 2,900 signatures, about 7,000 short of its target of 10,000.
But the number keeps increasing by the minute.
Apart from calling for the setting up of a royal commission, the online petition has also urged for the immediate resignation of Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) director Ja'far Mahad pending investigations on Teoh's death.
It also called for an "unconditional apology" by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nazri Abdul Aziz over his remarks on the 30-year-old DAP political secretary.
Nazri had previously issued a warning to the opposition not to turn Teoh's death into a racial issue and speculate on the nature of his untimely death last week.
Decision on royal commission today?
There have been numerous calls by both Pakatan Rakyat and Barisan Nasional leaders alike to set up a royal commission to urgently look into circumstances surrounding Teoh's deaths.
Yesterday, Pakatan Youth leaders urged Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to set it up immediately after the cabinet meeting in order to show their commitment to settle the issue.
However, it is still unknown as to whether the government agrees to the call, but Najib is expected to hold a press conference in his office in Putrajaya at 4pm today.
Teoh, who was Seri Kembangan assemblyperson Ean Yong Hian Wah's political secretary, was found dead in the corridor on the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam, Shah Alam, last Thursday.
He was believed to have fallen from the MACC office located on the 14th floor.
He was being interrogated as a witness into allegations of misappropriation in allocation of Selangor state funds.
Teoh was buried last Monday in Semenyih while the police said that almost 60 percent of the probe into his sudden death was completed.
