Mukhriz: Zaid showing his true colours

Deputy Trade and Industries Minister, Mukhriz Mahathir today hit out at Zaid Ibrahim saying the former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department had shown his true colours by joining the opposition and for proposing sweeping changes to the judiciary.

Mukhriz, when met on his campaign rounds with Umno and Barisan Nasional candidate, Tuan Aziz Tuan Mat at Kampung Bukit Budu, near Laloh, said that Zaid had been a thorn in Umno's side for so long even when he was in the party.
"He (Zaid) was not selected as a candidate to represent Umno for the Kota Bharu parliamentary seat as at that time he had problems (on an alleged graft claim). Despite that, the previous administration had appointed him minister.
"And even while being a minister, he went against the government with his outrageous proposals making changes to the judiciary, which the government had to live with even now. Pasir Salak MP Mohd Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, and I have attacked Zaid in parliament when he was a minister for his proposals.
"Now that he has joined PKR I feel vindicated as what I expect and said about him in parliament was right," he said.
Expanding further, Mukhriz whose father is former Prime Minister and Petronas adviser Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he knew that the opposition would also harp on the issue of oil royalty in the state of Kelantan where oil had been discovered after explorations.
The Deputy Minister said that issue (royalty) is much more complex than what the Kelantan government is claiming.
He said that the oil is being extracted from one source and being claimed by between four and five others and this has to be resolved first.
"Hence, I truly feel that Zaid is trying to confuse the voters and playing up their sentiments in the issue. However, we will explain this to the voters on the ground" said Mukhriz.
50 years of darkness
Mukhriz also claimed that Umno and BN has made in roads in attracting the Manek Urai voters to support the party.
"From what I have seen, the voters have grown to accept what we can bring in terms of development. I think this is what they want," Mukhrizn said.
Meanwhile, Tuan Aziz who was also on the campaign trail with Mukhriz (extreme left) said after 24 hours of campaigning he was confident that the voters would make the switch to support him.
AI believe there is some improvements as at some areas, the people have accepted me. I hope that this would be translated to votes come polling day.
"I pledge to address whatever problems that the people are facing," he said.
Asked on the possibility of some residents who have been without electricity after more than 50 years of independence, Tuan Aziz said he would make sure it would be a thing of the past.
