Khir & co plan to set aside suspension

Selangor opposition leader Dr Mohd Khir Toyo and four others will be taking legal action soon to set aside their suspension orders from attending in the state legislative assembly.

At a press conference in Shah Alam today, Khir said the decision was made during a meeting among state BN lawmakers today and the documents would be filed in a day or two.
Khir, (left) said that the Selangor assembly's rights and privileges committee, along with its chair and speaker Teng Chang Khim, had acted illegally in dismissing him and four others on May 19.
He accused Teng of trying to pre-empt BN lawmakers from voting in the event the Pakatan Rakyat faces a similar crisis as it did in Perak in February.
During that crisis, Perak menteri besar Zambry Abdul Kadir and six others were suspended from the state assembly by its Rights and Priviledges Committee but was overturned by the courts.
"In the case of Perak, the (courts) sided those who were suspended. We want the same to happen here," said Khir.
Teng's revenge
Khir was suspended for failing to attend the Balkis inquiry in March and for criticising the Selangor Select Committee on Competence, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat) in his blog.
The privileges committee also called for the suspension of Barisan Nasional assemblypersons Warno Dogol (Sabak), Isa Abdul Kasim (Batang Kali), Marsum Paing (Dengkil) and Mohamad Idris Abu Bakar (Hulu Bernam) for six months for questioning the integrity of Selcat.
Khir claims that the committee had acted unfairly as they were the accuser, judge, jury and executioner.
"They also taking revenge for suspending him (Teng) for 18 months. He was suspended for throwing the Standing Orders in the garbage bin (in 2005)," said Khir, adding that Teng has a ‘personal agenda' against him.
He said Pakatan is now in shambles in Penang and Kedah and it was a matter of time before disaster strikes in Selangor.
The Selangor state legislative assembly will convene on July 8.
