Speaking at a press conference at the party headquarters in Petaling Jaya today, Lim Kit Siang offered rather vague answers to the issue.
While saying he was willing to meet Kedah's PAS Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak, he however added that he cannot predict if the relationship between the two parties will be peachy in future.
"I cannot forecast what is going to happen if the problems are resolved, so I cannot say if the DAP state leaders will return to the PAS-led administration or not," he said.
As for meeting Azizan, the veteran politician said he will only consider this after talking to the Kedah DAP committee members and holding a dialogue with the public in Alor Star tomorrow.
On Wednesday, Kedah DAP declared that it was quitting the Pakatan coalition, citing several disgruntlements.
And in Lim's own words, "the last straw which broke the camel's back" or rather in this case, the pig's back, was the demolishment of the state’s sole pig slaughterhouse by the Alor Star municipal council.
In Penang, Lim's son Guan Eng, who is DAP secretary-general, said the party’s central executive committee (CEC) will meet next week to discuss the issue.
According to Bernama, the meeting will be held after obtaining feedback from his father in his capacity as the party's adviser.
Guan Eng, who is also Penang chief minister, said he 'believes' that the letter from Kedah DAP has been sent to the party headquarters.
"I haven't read it yet. Of course we will have a meeting," he was quoted a saying.
DAP rep declares himself independent
In a related development, DAP's sole representative in Kedah, Lee Guan Aik, today declared himself as an "independent and non-aligned" state assemblyperson and no longer a government supporter.
The Kota Darul Aman assemblyperson said he would also not support Barisan Nasional although he was no longer a state government supporter.
"I no longer support the government nor the opposition and will only side with the truth," he told Bernama.
He said the DAP national leadership was informed of Kedah DAP's stand by letter two days ago.
"We did not send a letter to the menteri besar but we sent one to the central DAP and we are awaiting a reply on the decision to pull out of Pakatan," he said.
Lee said the PAS leadership probably did not realise that the DAP had played a role in garnering the Chinese votes for the opposition coalition, including votes for PAS in the last general election.
"We regret the treatment given to DAP because I have repeatedly met the menteri besar to ask that the Alor Star municipal council postpone the demolition of the pig abattoir pending the state government's decision on approval for a new site for the abattoir," he said.
