The Barisan Alternatif has reached an agreement to observe a 48-hour moratorium if issues pertaining to relationships between its component parties arise in the media, a Keadilan council member said today.
Keadilan secretary-general Anuar Tahir told malaysiakini that statements can only be made after the parties concerned have discussed the issue.
"Should any party make comments before discussing it with the leadership, the others are not supposed to respond or comment," he said when contacted this evening.
Anuar had earlier refused to comment on the on-again-off-again row between Keadilan and DAP which resurfaced in wake of former Penang DAP leader Teoh Teik Huat's application last weekend to join Keadilan.
Teoh and three others had requested to join Keadilan, and party chief Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the applications would be given due consideration.
"I have not received any application forms from DAP members to join Keadilan. As the secretary-general, I am suppose to receive these applications," Anuar said, adding that he will discuss the matter with the party's leadership once he gets them.
When contacted, Keadilan vice-president Tian Chua said that the issue was an internal matter and the leaders should be able to resolve it.
"Our main issue now is to ride on the current wave attacking MCA and the Barisan Nasional," he told malaysiakini.
Keadilan deputy president Dr Chandra Muzaffar refused to comment when contacted.
Agreement not honoured
Also today, DAP chairman Lim Kit Siang requested his party to release him from all BA meetings, which discuss the choppy relationship between the party and Keadilan
In a press statement, Lim said he will be requesting secretary-general Kerk Kim Hock and another party leader to handle matters pertaining to the relationship between the two parties.
Meanwhile, DAP Penang chairman and MP for Tanjung Chow Kon Yeow announced that the Penang DAP will 'loosen' its relationship with Keadilan with immediate effect until the matter of the former luring DAP members is resolved by the BA national leadership.
He said in a press statement that Keadilan had once again failed to honour the mutual understanding among BA component parties over the pinching of party members.
