Eight new cases of influenza A(H1N1) has been detected over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in Malaysia to 35.

In the latest statement by the Health Ministry , the eight new cases did not result from local infections. The first case of local infection was discovered on Wednesday.

The 28th case involved a female student, age 20, who returned to Malaysia from Chicago for a holiday. She arrived at the KLIA airport at 7.30am on June 15 on flight MH091 without any signs of flu.

swine flu outbreak 130509 04 A day later, she showed signs of flu and sore throat and was admitted to the Sungai Buloh Hospital which confirmed that she was infected.

The 29th case involved a Thai student, age 11, who is in Malaysia with 43 others for a sports tournament.

She arrived the KLIA airport on flight MH785 and was found to have signs for flu upon arrival and was referred to the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

The 30th case involved an Australian, age 50, who is in Malaysia for holiday. He arrived at the LCCT airport on board AirAsia X D7 2723 from Melbourne and showed signs of flu the same day.

He was admitted to the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital (KLGH).

The 31st case involved a Malaysian woman, age 58, who had visited Australia with 11 other family members for three days.

Upon arrival in Malaysia on Air Asia X D7 2723 on Tuesday, she showed signs of flu and was warded at the KLGH.

All in stable condition

The 32nd involved a Malaysian woman, age 30, who is working in London and returned to Malaysia for a holiday. She arrived on Monday on flight MH001 and was treated at a private clinic the following day for flu and cough.

However, the case was not referred to the hospital, but she had admitted herself at the KLGH where she was confirmed with the A(H1N1) virus today.

The 33rd case involved a 15-year-old Malaysian girl who had visited her cousin in Melbourne, Australia last month. She returned to Malaysia on Monday on board AirAsia X D7 2723.

The 34th case involved a Filipino domestic worker, age 30, who was on holiday in Naguilian Quecun, Phillipines last month.

She returned to Malaysia on Sunday on board MH075, but only showed signs of flu on Wednesday and was treated at the Sungai Buloh Hospital last night. The infection was confirmed today.

70 test results still pending

The 35th case involved a Malaysian male, age 20, who returned from Melbourne for holiday. Upon arriving in Malaysia on Monday , he showed signs of flu and cough the same day.

He sought treatment from a private clinic on Wednesday and was later referred to the Sungai Buloh Hospital, where the infection was confirmed.

According to the Health Ministry statement, 23 out of the total 35 cases of A(H1N1) infections are still being treated at the following hospitals:

  • Sungai Buloh Hospital (10)

  • Kuala Lumpur General Hospital (6)

  • Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital, Kuantan (1)

  • Tuanku Jaafar Hospital, Seremban (3)

  • Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kota Kinabalu (1)

  • Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Ipoh (1)

  • Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Klang (1).

The Health Ministry said that all patients were given anti-viral treatment and are currently in stable condition.

As of last night, a total 1,092 individuals have been suspected cases of A(H1N1) infection. A total of 987 incidents tested negative while 70 incidents are still pending test results.
