Ousted Perak menteri besar Nizar Jamaluddin, who was voted into the PAS central working committee with the highest number of votes today, asserted that there was no faction within PAS and all leaders worked together.
He said he does not buy the argument that there were divisions within PAS.

“The delegates have chosen. That is what PAS is all about,” he stressed.
Although, PAS deputy president Nasharudin Mat Isa, who is said to belong to the ulama (religious scholars) faction, has managed to retain his post, the word is that at least six of the 18 members of the central working committee (CWC) are firmly from the 'Erdogan' camp.
This prompted losing deputy president candidate Husam Musa to remark that his comrades were able to win all of three vice-president posts and a sizable portion of the central working committee seats.
Erdogan refers to Tayyip Recep Erdogan, the liberal Turkish prime minister.
Nizar further argued that most of the ulamas have professional jobs as well, citing Nasharudin is also a law lecturer at the Islamic International University (UIA).
The bottom line, he stressed, is that they are all leaders of PAS.
Nizar, who came up tops of 54 nominees running for the central working committee with 854 votes, said that he wanted to thank the delegates for their confidence in him.
Salahuddin wants to play diplomat
Meanwhile, newly-minted vice-president Salahuddin Ayub said that the central working committee is “equally balanced” between the ulama and the professionals.
According to him, the delegates have been smart enough to ensure that there was a “good mix” of the factions.
While Husam is opposed to having any form of dialogue with Umno, Salahuddin said he is for the party president’s stand conveyed yesterday in his policy speech where future talks with Umno is not ruled out.
Salahuddin said that the main priority of PAS leaders is not forming a unity government with Umno but to strengthen ties with Pakatan Rakyat.
“I shall work as a diplomat to bridge the gap between PAS and government ministries, agencies, other parties and NGOs,” he said at a press conference after lunch.
