Former Keadilan leader Dr Chandra Muzaffar was today urged to join DAP by veteran politician Karpal Singh who said the formers talent should not be left untapped.

There is still fire in his belly to carry on with the political struggle he embarked upon, said Karpal, DAPs deputy chairperson, in a press statement.

He added that Chandras national and international credentials would strengthen the opposition.

Karpal also said he was impressed with Chandra for saying he joined Keadilan because of principles and would not be part of anything that troubled his conscience.

Chandra was reported to have lashed out at his former party during a forum organised by DAP in Penang on Thursday.

To a question from the floor on the reasons for leaving Keadilan, Chandra replied: It (the reasons) will hurt a lot of people. I joined the party because of principles and I will not be part of anything that troubles my conscience.

The former deputy president of Keadilan was also reported to have accused the partys leaders of practising the concept of the ends justifies the means.

Chandra, who is the president of the International Movement for a Just World (Just), resigned from Keadilan in December. A month before, at the party elections, he had opted out of defending his post.

Keadilan swiped

Karpal also took a swipe at Keadilan today, saying the party should work towards strengthening itself and the opposition and not threaten DAP by saying it will take on the party in the next general elections.

It is not that DAP is cowed in any way by such idle and unwise utterances, but political maturity should not be ignored by Keadilan leaders who must accept that DAP is, and has been, a party with an impressive track record, he said.

Keadilan and DAP, once allies in the opposition Barisan Alternatif front, are now, more often than not, on opposite sides of the fence on various issues.

Chandra and Keadilan leaders could not be reached for comment.
