Nizar: Special assembly sitting will backfire on BN

If Perak Barisan Nasional (BN) convenes a special sitting of the Perak state assembly, it would only worsen the political chaos, according to rivals Pakatan Rakyat.

Ousted Pakatan mentri besar Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin pointed to the uproar during the sitting on May 7 to back the argument.
Pakatan representatives are still seething over the strong-arm tactics applied in hauling V Sivakumar out of the speaker’s chair and then out of the House that day.
“So, any move to call for a special sitting to determine whether I command the support of the majority will only backfire on Barisan and a worse scenario will prevail,” said Nizar.
“The best move by Zambry is to get the consent of Tuanku (the Perak sultan) and dissolve the assembly for a fresh mandate from the people.”
He was referring to BN-appointee Zambry Abd Kadir. Last Friday, the Court of Appeal declared him the lawful menteri besar, but Nizar intends to file an appeal to the Federal Court.
Prime Minister and BN chairperson Najib Abdul Razak had suggested that a special sitting be called to determine the status of Nizar as menteri besar in the House.
However, Zambry has apparently not warmed to Najib's idea, preferring to wait for the Federal Court decision in order to avoid any embarrassment.
Trees planted
This morning, Nizar led a team of Pakatan politicians including DAP’s Ngeh Koo Ham and Nga Kor Ming to a tree-planting ceremony near the Kinta River in Ipoh Raya.
Under the watchful eyes of the special branch and traffic police, they planted 10 trees to signify the promotion of multi-racialism in the state.
Nizar later presented prizes to the three winners of a drawing contest held yesterday, in conjunction with the ongoing three-day fast by Pakatan representatives.
The theme was based on ‘political frogs’. This referred to three state assemblypersons - two from PKR and one from DAP - who had defected to BN in early February, toppling the Pakatan administration.
Among the winners was former state exco member Nga (below), who was placed second and won a box of chocolates.
“However, I can’t eat it because I am fasting,” he quipped.
