A woman politician at the centre of a recent high-profile sex scandal in Taiwan has had an application to stage a concert here turned down, a report said today. Chu Mei-feng, who was secretly filmed having sex with a married lover, would not be allowed to perform at the MCA hall, The Star reported.

The head of the MCA women's wing, Ng Yen Yen, who is also deputy culture, arts and tourism minister, said Chu was a bad role model for young people.

The MCA, which is a member of the ruling coalition, had also made it's stand known to deputy Home Affairs minister Chor Chee Heung, who agreed that it was "not suitable" for Chu to perform here, the daily said. Chor is also a central committee member of MCA.

The former Taipei city councillor and former head of Hsinchu city government's cultural affairs department is due to perform in neighbouring Singapore next month at a show entitled Confessions of Chu Mei-feng.

Chu, 36, gained wide publicity after illicit VCDs of her sex session were released by a Taiwan tabloid and found their way onto the black market and the Internet.

The organisers of the Singapore show, due to run from March 15-17, said it would be Chu's first public appearance as a singer.

She has already released a book describing her ordeal after the scandal broke.
