Hamidah Osman, the Wanita Umno information chief and Perak assembly person who is infamous for her ‘kill the snake or the Indian man' analogy, stated that democracy means those with the most seats in a house would form the legitimate government.

But she would, just like her party, loathe the possibility of facing the electorate.

Thanks to her, the people understand Umno's meaning of democracy which is entirely different from what it is generally understood to mean ie, the people electing their representatives.

Mukhriz Mahathir is mortified that elected representatives could force a by-election for personal reasons by vacating their seat such as in Penanti. He wants the election laws to be amended to address such an eventuality.

Perhaps he is not aware that an elected representative who vacates a seat mid-term would be barred from contesting in an election for one term.

However, Mukhriz is not perturbed by the three representatives hopping from Pakatan to BN. That is perfectly democratic for Umno so it seems.

Giving the people the right to elect their representative is repugnant but hopping to another party without getting a fresh mandate from the people is ‘semuanya ok!'

Alas, BN claims Pakatan started it all with Anwar Ibrahim's Sept 16 taunt. Anwar, however, is on record as stating that those who crossed over to Pakatan from BN would have to face by-elections within a year.

But BN and Umno are hypocrites of the highest order. They preached one thing and they did something else - the very definition of hypocrisy. They condemned Sept 16, 2008 but they carried out February 4, 2009 when they seized the Perak government.

One of the rare instances when you could see the judiciary moving at the speed of light was on May 12, 2009.

It was highly unlikely the same efficiency would also be experienced yesterday when Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin's lawyers filed an application with the same court to set aside the order granted on May 12.

Likewise, the police and FRU were deployed at supersonic speed to ‘guard' the Perak state secretariat when Nizar was deemed the legitimate MB.

Of course, since Zambry is back as the MB now, the police and FRU don't see the need to guard the building from any threat. It was as though Nizar was a suicide bomber en-route to his target.

Don't you just wish the 13th general election was tomorrow?
