Yee to replace Tan as DCM?

Sabah Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Dr Yee Moh Chai is widely-tipped to be the next Deputy Chief Minister to replace Raymond Tan Shu Kiah.
Reliable sources said that Chief Minister Musa Aman is expected to make an announcement soon on this, with a minor reshuffle to his cabinet.
Sabah Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Dr Yee Moh Chai is widely-tipped to be the next Deputy Chief Minister to replace Raymond Tan Shu Kiah.
Reliable sources said that Chief Minister Musa Aman is expected to make an announcement soon on this, with a minor reshuffle to his cabinet.
“No wonder Dr Yee who had been conspicuously quiet on many issues affecting the people of Sabah of late had been enthusiastically making a series of public statements praising the chief minister over a number of issues,” said Sabah Progressive Party (Sapp) information chief Chong Pit Fah (pic) said in a statement today.
Yee has been continuously praising Musa over such things as the allocation of annual funds for the Chinese primary and independent schools and the Chinese temples in the state.
He added that Yee also took the opportunity of giving credit to Musa over the purchase of Sabah Medical Centre (SMC) at Luyang, costing RM245 million.
“Yee’s latest pat on Musa’s back is his announcement that the chief minister has allocated a piece of unidentified land in Kudat to the Hainan Federation of Sabah and Labuan for the construction of the Sea Goddess’ statue better known as Mazu,” he said.
Yee overseeing Mazu statue construction?
Pit Fah said it was especially interesting to note that Yee who is a non-Buddhist or Taoist seems to be spearheading the construction of the Mazu statue by the Hainan Federation of Sabah and Labuan, instead of the Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Edward Khoo, who is a Buddhist.
He said the other two Chinese leaders, Raymond and Datuk Peter Pang of the Liberal Democratic Party ( LDP) who are also entrusted to ensure the smooth implementation of the said project are neither Buddhist or Taoist.
“While we congratulate Yee for having regained his long-lost enthusiasm in commenting on issues affecting the Chinese community, we would like to call on him to be more forthcoming after this, in informing the people of Sabah, the Chinese community especially, of the state government’s policies, programmes and plans that would benefit them.
"At the same time, he must diligently question anything which would adversely affect them, and not just to go all out to praise the chief minister simply because he knew for a fact that there is a good opportunity for him to realize his ultimate political agenda of becoming the deputy chief minister (under the Chinese community’s quota),” he said.
He said, however, there is skepticism that Yee of Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) would be appointed as the Chinese DCM replacing Raymond in view of the fact that his party boss Joseph Pairin Kitingan is currently one of three deputy chief ministers.
Raymond may get to retain his posts
“We just don’t think the other BN component parties would be happy to see two DCMs from the same party,” he added.
“Hence, we believe Raymond would still get to retain his current positions in the state cabinet, unless something had gone terribly wrong between him and the chief minister, which we are not aware of,” he added.
According to Pit Fah, Sabah soon would have twin Mazu statues, one to be erected by the Hainan Federation of Sabah and Labuan and the other by former chief minister and former LDP chief Chong Kah Kiat (pic).
“As such, Sabahans would have something to cheer and not be left far behind compared to Kuala Lumpur which have Petronas Twin Towers while Perak have twin menteris besar and another twin speakers,” he quipped.
He said, however, it is sad to note that the construction of the twin towers of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) has been left abandoned for more than one-and-a-half years while the government and Dr Yee has not give any explanation.
