A 'litany of abuses' by embattled MB

Embattled Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Said remains the thorn in the BN coalition in the east coast state as he received continuous attacks from his Umno detractors following the release of a report alleging abuse of power.

The report, which was made available to Malaysiakini, is said to have been distributed to 13 Terengganu Umno assemblypersons in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, revealed Alur Limbat assemblyperson Alias Abdullah.
These 13 assemblypersons were to KL to explain to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his deputy Muhyiddin Yassin about the state assembly boycott last Tuesday.
The report started off: “Even though the menteri besar has pledged to give full co-operation to resolve problems that could arise from the previous administration by former MB Idris Jusoh, he did not practise what he preached”.
“Now, it has been a year since he (Ahmad) held the menteri besar’s post, and he has caused more damages than progress,” said the report.
The report, which stated the alleged abuse of power in point forms, claimed that Ahmad had ‘unnecessarily’ expelled eight state officials the first time he took office.

The report also alleged that Ahmad had made ‘inappropriate appointments’ to these people.
According to the report, many of the state officials have lost confidence in Ahmad after he conducted a mass transfer of 67 Terengganu administrative officers in December 2008.
“There were also officials who had been demoted,” said the report.
Ahmad ‘uses threats as weapon’
“Ahmad always uses threats as a weapon every time he gets suspicious about exco members who are not on the same page with him,” revealed the report.
For example, it said, Ahmad had threatened to expel Yahya Khatib, assemblyperson from Pengkalan Berangan, from his state exco position for challenging Rahman Bakar to grab the post of Marang Umno division chief in the division polls on Oct 21, 2008.
“He had also threatened to expel the 10 assemblypersons who he learnt wanted to move a vote of no-confidence against him during the state assembly sitting between April 13-15 recently,” it said.
Furthermore, the report noted that Ahmad had attempted to “portray a bad image” to two mega projects introduced by the former menteri besar as where he had alleged wrongdoings in the annual Monsoon Cup and Taman Tamadun Islam events.
“On July 26, 2008, he had asked (then) Anti-Corruption Agency to investigate those two projects. Despite all that, the ACA had found no irregularities in them in their official statement,” said the report.
Not only that, it added, Ahmad had tried to smear Idris’ reputation by claiming that the maintenance of Malaysian made Proton Perdana V6 as their official vehicle as ‘costly’.
“With this claim, Ahmad was adamant in obtaining Mercedez Benz as the state official cars which had cost the government RM3.43 million,” said the report, adding that the menteri besar had “violated the federal government’s advice”.
Senior private secretary, the second MB
Ahmad had also failed to appoint state assemblypersons as constituency co-ordinating chairperson following pressures from various Umno division heads.
As a result of this, the elected representatives do not have the power to appoint village security and development committee chairpersons.
There are also allegations that the appointment of the senior private secretary to the menteri besar Wan Ahamad Wan Muda had resulted in him (Wan Ahmad) meddling in the Terengganu government's administration.
Wan Ahamad, dubbed the second menteri besar, was alleged to be the one responsible for sending sms threat to the three assemblypersons on April 13.
He is alleged to have abused his power in providing supplies during the Kuala Terengganu by-election and as chairperson of the Primula Resort, a suite was removed from the hotel's inventory list for his own personal use.

- Expelled Terengganu Development Institute chief executive officer Dr Azmi Omar with 24-hour notice.

- Expelled Ladang Rakyat executive director Kamaruddin Mat Zain and his manager, Anwar.
- Expelled Kemaman Supply Base General Manager Syed Muzaffar Tuan Razin.
The report also alleged that Ahmad had made ‘inappropriate appointments’ to these people.
- Appointed a new Terengganu Inc CEO Mohd Noor Mohamed who does not have the ability to run the organisation, resulting in the destabilisation of the company’s administration.
- Appointed a former ambulance driver and also a PAS supporter Ngah Ismail as PESAMA director.
- Appointed a former primary school principal Roshali Taha as UBEST director, while he fired many UBEST officials who were still in service.
- Appointed a former primary school principal Rohani Abdullah as Kuantan Medical Centre’s chairperson of the board of directors.
