As an Indonesian I would like to apologise for the troubles caused by my people in your country. Many of them spoil their chances of a better life by committing crimes.

But please understand that the Indonesian immigrants although it constitutes a big number for your 20 million population is just a very small number of the 206 million population of Indonesia.

These groups are not well educated, and are desperate as in our country there are not many jobs left for them.

They, like most of us in our country, are frustrated by the political instability and rampant corruption. It's really disgusting to see the corrupt Indonesian elite enjoying luxuries while most of us starve and yearn for a better living.

Unfortunately, many of your people do not like to hold the 'rough' jobs construction workers, oil palm harvesters, or maids that many of our workers are keen to take on for a small remuneration.

I don't quite agree with Macca KC Spare the rod and spoil the illegals (Jan 22) that these workers do not help the Malaysian economy. Many of your companies have been hiring illegal immigrants on purpose. These illegal workers are very cheap.

Instead of reporting to the police, these companies have in fact protected them. That is why the influx of illegal immigrants is really hard to stop.

I also understand that many of you have been looking down on us because of your domestic problems with Indonesian immigrants. I've been experiencing your suspicious glances every time you meet the 'Indon'.

Even when I was trying to help a lady on a public bus, she promptly refused to look at me when she realised that I am an Indonesian

Your PM was absolutely right. We will let your people do anything necessary to punish the criminals.

On behalf of Indonesians, I wish your multi-ethnic country all the best. Just don't let the harmony in your country and your wealthy life be spoilt by the outburst of multi-ethnic conflicts. We have enough of that in Indonesia.

Again, please accept our apology. This is not from our government. This sincerely from us, Indonesian people.
