I refer to the letter You want better taxi service? Read this...

I don't think there is inherently anything wrong with taxis being owned by individuals

instead of organisations. Individual owners are more likely to take care of their vehicles and the authorities are notorious for not taking action against organisations anyway.

Similarly, I disagree that coupon taxis the way forward. It is the bane of my life as a regular KLIA patron to have to queue up to buy a coupon then queue up to have some guy take my ticket and inspect it, then queue up yet again to get a taxi.

Not to mention the extra expense of the staff required. Singapore airport just has one person to tell you which taxi to get into, and I bet he will be out of a job once they find a way to automate that process.

I certainly don't agree with the councils controlling taxis - they can't be trusted to pick up my garbage on time or without throwing it all over the road! Just one body should be in charge of all taxi issues. Enforcement, licencing, etc.

I do agree that the CVLB should be eliminated. If they can't do their job, then of what use are they? So far I haven't seen real figures regarding how many prosecutions they have done or what punishments have been meted out.

It would not surprise me to see tens of thousands of complaints, yet only dozens of prosecutions, with most of them mere slaps on the wrist. Certainly any crony company would get no punishment.

What is needed, not just for taxis, it law enforcement. It's as simple as that. If a taxi refuses to take three people without using the meter, he should be blacklisted from getting a commercial driver's licence and his vehicle should be banned from being registered.

No excuses, no exceptions.

Unlicenced drivers should be jailed and unlicenced taxis crushed. There should be at least 20 trustworthy undercover inspectors doing the rounds all over Malaysia, finding errant drivers.

More importantly, taxi customers that make complaints must be made to feel like they are not wasting their time. I have made three complaints in about 10 years and not once, despite leaving my phone and e-mail contacts, have I been contacted.

No feedback, never been asked to clarify anything and I don't know if there was any outcome.

All complainants should be given a case number and a method of checking on the case. It goes without saying this would also force the authorities to actually do some work investigating each case.
