13 released, ban lifted - so what?
I refer to the Malaysiakini report 13 ISA freed, ban lifted on party organs.
Though Najib Abdul Razak announced with high spirits that 13 ISA detainees were to be released immediately and the ban on two opposition publications was lifted with immediate effect, my response is ‘So what?’
The reasons of my response are as follows:
1. Don't you think this action is like a thief returning the money that he stole? Should you be thankful for the thief returning the money? Don't forget, this is your money, and it shouldn't have been stolen from you in the first place.
2. Don't you think that if he is indeed sincere in reviving justice and democracy in the nation, where then are the committees to investigate the allegations linking him to Altantuya's murder and the various corruption and bribery accusations?
Remember, you should always pay for what you do. An alleged criminal should be charged no matter what. Let him clear his name in court. Even Israel's ex-president was charged with on a few counts of sexual harassment and rape.
Don't ever think that this amnesty of Najib’s will divert the rakyat's attention away from his various alleged corruption links.
3. Don't you think this is again another form of electoral goodies? Remember what he had done during the previous two by-elections in Permatang Pauh and Kuala Terengganu?
Don't you think this ‘good news’ is just political rhetoric since he already knows that his monetary tactic in trying to buy the voters' hearts with hundreds of millions of ringgit didn't work and so most likely won't work this time around for the three by-elections?
4. Don't you worry of what will happen when the three by-elections are over? If he doesn't abolish the ISA, do you think that he would allow ‘anti-government’ voices to be heard after the tri-elections?
5. How about the rest of those who are still detained - especially the remaining three Hindraf leaders? What's his standard for selectively releasing 13 and not the others?
Could it be that these13 are ‘less threatening’ compared to the remaining Hindraf leaders?
So my message to all voters and Malaysians is don't ever think that this new PM will return your right to express your will peacefully and also your right to know who really murdered Altantuya.
