Nizar tries to fry 'koey teow' while BN dishes out TOLs
The fourth day of the Bukit Gantang by-election campaign saw DAP launching the second phase of their campaign to propel ousted Perak menteri besar Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin to Parliament.
Nizar is up against Umno’s Ismail Saffian and independent candidate Kamarul Ramizu Idris.

The fourth day of the Bukit Gantang by-election campaign saw DAP launching the second phase of their campaign to propel ousted Perak menteri besar Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin to Parliament.
Nizar is up against Umno’s Ismail Saffian and independent candidate Kamarul Ramizu Idris. 
DAP has been tasked by Pakatan Rakyat to woo the non-Malay votes. Its strategy for now includes promoting its “report card” on the coalition’s 11-month administration.
Other than this, the second phase of their campaign includes highlighting the treacherous act of Jelapang state assemblyperson Hee Yit Fong, who is highly despised by the Kinta Valley Chinese for her defection from DAP.
“The Chinese community cannot accept this kind of treacherous act. Her actions has disgraced her family,” said Perak DAP chairperson, Ngeh Khoo Ham, at a press conference in Simpang this morning to announce their new strategy.
Mohd Nizar, who was at the function held at a Chinese coffee shop, was later coaxed by a press photographer to fry a plate of “koey teow”, a popular delicacy.
By most accounts, Mohd Nizar’s “koey teow” frying skills were wanting, but it did not stop a young Chinese lady from immediately offering RM50 for the “MB koey teow”.
15 TOLs issued last week
Meanwhile, in Kuala Sepetang, Gerakan’s Chang Ko Youn distributed 14 temporary occupation licences (TOLs) to Kuala Sepatang new village residents.
Chang, who is the newly-appointed adviser of Chinese affairs to Menteri Besar Zambry Abd Kadir, denied that this had anything to do with the by-election as it was promised prior to Pakatan forming the state government last year.
“We did this to help people in need. They are worried and we need to give them peace of mind, so we decided to provide the TOLs, even though several technical departments disagreed,” he told reporters.
He adds that 15 TOLs was issued last week and between 100 to 200 more would be issued in the future.
Over at the PAS headquarters in Air Kuning, the party announced that it would not abide by police requirements for them not to raise the issue of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu’s murder.
“We have a right to freedom of expression,” said Perak PAS election director Asmuni Awi.
Speakers can be from any parties
“We will raise any issue of interest to the public and the country as long as the matters raised do not flout the laws and is based on facts,” he added. 
The Election Commission today said that only political parties and individuals taking part in the by-election would be issued ceramah permits by the police.
“We know some parties are unhappy over the issuance of permits. You must understand that according to the regulations, only parties taking part in the by-election can apply for permits.
“However, they are allowed to have speakers from other parties. For this by-election, only PAS can apply for permits, and not DAP or PKR,” he added.
Hitting the ceramah circuit tonight are newly-elected Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, Perak Umno deputy chief Zahid Hamidi, and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Ismail.
