Keadilan has been projected as only a Malay/Muslim party in the mainstream newspapers. However, the reality and truth are different from the propaganda.

As the Indera Kayangan by-election has revealed, there many Chinese who are also leaders, members and supporters of the multi-ethnic opposition party. As an Indian Malaysian, let me also say that there are also many Indians who join, lead and support Keadilan.

For example, beside the well-known N Gobalakrisnan, there are also other elected top leaders in Keadilan's supreme council and youth wing, like Dr Xavier Jeyakumar, Dr Partap Man Singh, Irene Fernandez and Youth committee member, S Manikavasagam.

Many Indian Malaysians are already sick with Samy Vellu's MIC, as well as political jokers like the Indian Progresssive Front (IPF) and People's Progressive Party (PPP). For years, despite the many high-sounding rhetorics of these so-called Indian leaders, the interests of the community has not improved. Estate workers are still poor and oppressed, Tamil schools are neglected and Indian youths are marginalised in the mainstream national development.

Tamil language newspapers are also all monopolised by Samy Vellu and MIC politicians. There is no freedom of speech and expression in the Tamil-speaking community too.

It is time, I think, for Indian Malaysians to unite with Malays/Muslims and Chinese to fight for justice for all to create a fair, equitable and democratic society.

There are also many poor and oppressed Malays/Muslims and Chinese. We should not be divided again by the racist system of politics. We should abandon racist parties such as Umno, MCA and MIC. We should also reject neither-here-nor-there parties like IPF, PPP and other smallish opposition parties that claim to protect the rights of the Indian community.

In politics, number and organisational strength count. Thus far, only Keadilan provides the politics of national unity as well as number and organisational strength. Indian support for Keadilan will certainly enhance its strength.

I hope more Indian Malaysian professionals and intellectuals will follow the footsteps of Xavier Jeyakumar, Pratap Man Singh and Irene Fernandez, and to join and support Keadilan so that the voices of Indian Malaysian community will be heard loud and clear.

After the Indera Kayangan by-election, Keadilan should step up its efforts to recruit even more Indian members and supporters.
