I am not a member of any political party, but as a young lawyer, I am naturally inclined to support the opposition to provide a check and balance in the system.

I am just puzzled by what is happening in DAP as reported by malaysiakini and other newspapers.

If I am not mistaken, Karpal Singh's son, Gorbind Singh Deo, did make a statement supporting the Barisan Nasional's appointment of Abdul Gani Patail as the attorney-general, in utter disregard to DAP's position and the opinions in the legal fraternity.

Nothing has happened to him. No discipline action was taken by DAP against the son of Karpal Singh.

Now, there is a DAP MP, Goh Kheng Huat, who went to Indera Kayangan to support the opposition, and it is reported that disciplinary action would be taken against him. Is it not double standard?

Karpal Singh's son supporting BN is not regarded as a breach of DAP's discipline, but a DAP MP supporting opposition Keadilan against MCA is. It is really a perversion of justice.

It smacks of nepotism and double-standard. I hope DAP would think twice before it becomes an object of ridicule and contempt in, at least, the legal fraternity which always upholds the rules of law and the value of fair play.
